Our School - 50th Anniversary celebrations

Kalgoorlie School of the Air celebrated its 50th year in style over the weekend of the 29th and 30th September 2012.

On the evening of the 29th September, all stops were pulled out and this resulted in a very successful cocktail evening at the Hannans Club, organised by the P&C. Past and present staff, ex students, past and present parents and guests gathered for a social evening of wining, dining and dancing. One of the highlights of the evening was the auction, where many coveted items found new homes and some patrons were sadly left empty handed, but all in high spirits.
On the Sunday 30th September, the Open Day at the school was very well attended and once again the students, teachers and P&C had done themselves proud. Many events added to the carnival atmosphere which entertained the guests: jumping castles, face painting, sausage sizzle, raffles, items preformed by students and the cutting of the cake ceremony to name a few.
The displays through out all areas of the school showcased not only current work and photos of events attended by students, but also of those in years past, leading to much reminiscing taking place. Evident in the displays and discussions taking place, was transformation in the manner of lesson delivery in SOTA over the past 50 years from pedal radio to satellite technology!
It was a wonderful weekend where the amazing community spirit of the Kalgoorlie SOTA and the pride of all connected to SOTA and its uniqueness, was celebrated!
