Curriculum - Learning Programme K - Y7

Learning Program
Students from Kindergarten to Year 7 work on programmes designed by School of the Air teaching staff or on materials from West One, Leederville or a combination of both. At Kalgoorlie School of the Air, we are implementing English, Mathematics, History and Science according to the Australian Curriculum and will start to implement Geography as soon as the draft curriculum is approved. All other learning areas will be covered accoring to the WA Curriculum Framework for 2014.
The Year 3 – 7 students also have choise of Indonesian or French as a LOTE.
A term’s worth of work is sent out to students and Home Tutors at the end of each term in preparation for the next term by their teachers. Work sent out also includes all materials needed for air lessons or any activities included in their daily school programme. Children send their completed work in to their teachers by mail every two to three weeks, email, dropbox, thumb-drive or on-line during presentation lessons.
Teachers work collaboratively with the Support Teacher Learning to design specific tailored programmes for students where needed.
Students also attend camps during the year where staff and Home Tutors are able to further improve student outcomes in learning areas featuring group interaction.
Priority Learning Areas
Kalgoorlie SOTA focuses on English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education and Health and integrating technology into the learning program. This year we are also focussing on Science, History and Geography as set out in the Australian Curriculum.
The school has an annual and ongoing review process to keep it informed about its student outcomes.
